MODERNISATION OF AIRFIELD INFRASTRUCTURE (MAFI)

MAFI, a Turnkey project awarded to Tata Advanced Systems against Global competition, encompasses the Supply, Installation, Testing, Integration and Commissioning of state-of-the-art ICAO compliant systems / equipments at Defence Airfields spread across India.

Tata Advanced Systems has partnered with internationally renowned OEMs who are established leaders in the Aviation industry in their respective fields. As the System Integrator for MAFI, Tata Advanced Systems has, as Prime Contractor, taken on single point responsibility for the Installation and Integration of their Navigational Aids at each Airfield along with the Air Traffic Management System, CAT II Airfield Lighting, IP-based Voice Communications System, Power Ring, Data Ring and other associated support systems.

All Defence Airfield MAFI will be modernized and equipped with

TACAN
Auto-transmission capability by controlling the tank’s engine and transmission systems
Runway Visual Range (RVR)
A meteorological sensor that notifies the measured Visibility Range prevailing on the Runway.
Doppler VHF Omni-directional Radio (DVOR)
A type of short-range Radio Navigation System for aircraft, enabling it to determine its bearing from the North w.r.t. the Ground Station.
Instrument Landing System (ILS)
A ground-based Instrument Approach that consists of two independent sub-systems, viz. Localiser and Glide Path.
Distance Measuring Equipment (DME)
A transponder-based Radio Navigation System that uses UHF radio signals to provide slantrange distance to the aircraft from the Ground Station.
Airfield Lighting System (AFLS)
The CAT II AFLS configuration ensures safe operations for aircraft movement and landing upto a visibility of 350m on one Runway Approach.
Air Traffic Management System (ATMS)
At the heart of integration and automation is the Auto Trac system that provides Air Traffic Management at an Airfield for smooth operations.
Mobile Air Traffic Control (MATC)
A Mobile ATC cabin mounted on a trailer along with another trailer for power supply.
Mobile Airfield Lighting System (MAFLS)
A Mobile AFLS that includes provisioning of factory-moulded cables, portable AFLS assemblies and PAPI units housed in containers and transported on trailers.
Data Ring
Fiber Optic backbone provided for communication of all the equipments installed under the scope of MAFI.
Power Ring
A High Tension Power Ring connected across two Power Sub Stations of the Airfield to ensure Power redundancy at Source level.
Civil Works
Refurbishment of the ATC Tower, Construction of the CCR building, Trenching for Data / Power Rings and AFLS Cable Laying, Installation of Airfield Lights on operating surfaces, construction of foundations for all the Navigational Aids with associated shelters and AFLS components.

AUTOMATIC DATA HANDLING SYSTEM (ADHS)

With the advent of modern aircraft it is essential to provide an effective and integrated Real Time Command and Control at the Air Defence Direction Centre (ADDC). Tata Advanced Systems has developed the Futuristic Automated Data Handling System (FADHS) which is meant to automate the functions of the ADDC. FADHS communicates with the adjacent ADDC, CCI radars, SAGW bases, Air bases, CRC and other important elements in the Air Defence network through an elaborate communication net interfacing with upto 48 entities. FADHS has been installed and is operational 24x7 at 3 important Air Force sites.

Tata Advanced Systems has also executed another Air Defence project COTS ADHS at 16 ADDC - which provides the Indian Air Force with a modern Air Defence system incorporating COTS hardware and state-of-the-art algorithms and an integrated user interface which would improve the system performance and operational effectiveness. The primary objective of the COTS ADHS is to provide complete information and all the support facilities required in a modern Air Defence Command and Control System. The system enables commanders and controllers to effectively perform the following tasks:
Monitor the Indian Air Space
Operate in real-time with modern radars
Integrate with other Air Defence elements
Identify hostile and friendly aircrafts
Evaluate threats due to hostile aircrafts
Allocate weapons against the threat
Control a range of air- missions
Perform in static or mobile roles

Other C4I Systems

COMBAT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

A real-time C4I Combat Systems for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy for processing data received continuously from sensors such as Radars, Sonars, Weapon Systems, Ground Systems and other On-board Systems, to provide a comprehensive picture of air / surface / sub-surface scenario, maps and patterns and other information.
